Paycrave is an iOS app concept that connects hungry customers with nearby food trucks.
Role: UX/UI Designer
The focus of my role for this project was to interview potential users to discover opportunities and themes that could be translated into User Stories and User Flows. Once the core tasks and features were identified, I created high-fidelity mockups and an interactive prototype.
The Problem
Hard to read menus. Long lines. Limited payment methods. Truck location and details not viewable via commonly used maps.
The Solution
With Paycrave, people can easily search for nearby food trucks and order ahead to skip the line using their credit card. They can also view helpful information like photos and reviews to help them decide which food truck will hit the spot.
Research
To start gathering relevant data, I drafted a survey to be filled out by people who have purchased from a food truck in the past. The focus was to learn about people's experiences with food trucks and their behaviors related to searching and paying for food from a smartphone.
Personas
User research results were distilled into personas to show primary user types and common usage contexts—in this case, busy city intersections and special events like festivals and conferences. Based on real people and their motivations and frustrations, personas help to maintain focus on the end goals instead of abstracted features.
User Stories
After identifying the two main user groups—new and returning—I drafted the User Stories lists to help guide the design process and account for the needed User Flows.
User Flows
One significant decision that needed consideration was how to begin the experience when a user first opens the app. Should a user be required to create an account or give some information before using the app? Since a primary user goal is to view nearby food trucks, the map view was decided on as the first screen so that users could immediately start searching with as little friction as possible.
Mockups
Using Sketch, I created mockups around the primary user stories and then iterated based on feedback.

The mockups were then converted into an interactive prototype using InVision in order to run usability tests and see where additional iterations were needed.
